May Foodie Penpals!

Hello everyone!

It is that time of the month to post my goodies.

I am so excited about this months package from Kelly who blogs over at Roots and Wings. She sent me some really good stuff! I sent my package to Hilary Wolf who doesn’t have a blog but I spoke with her to see if she would want to be a guest writer on my blog and post what I sent her . :)

20120530-205211.jpg

I haven’t tried any of the treats she sent me and I was excited for that. I love LUNA bars and these cliff bars were so yummy. I also loved the somersault snacks delish and they’re soo good for you.

The J napkins were my favorite, i’m pretty much obsessing over monogrammed things thank you for those. My favorite thing is the nut butter!! Omgosh this was amazing, I was running low on nut butter and this was a fantastic blend of deliciousness.

So happy with my package this month thank you.

And now it’s time for some details about Foodie Penpals. In case you’re a new reader, here’s a reminder of what the program is all about:

-On the 5th of every month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you are to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
-Foodie Penplas is open to US & Canadian residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa.

If you’re interested in participating for June, please CLICK HERE to fill out the participation form and read the terms and conditions.

You must submit your information by June 4th as pairings will be emailed on June 5th!

*If you’re from somewhere besides the US, Canada or Europe and want to participate, send me an email and I’ll see if we get enough interest this month!

Under Construction

I am so sorry I have been MIA I promise it’s for a good reason. I’ve been really busy getting ready for summer classes, working out and coming up/trying new recipes! My next post will be on May 31st about my Foodie Penpal.

I have things worked up for my blog and I promise I will be back soon!

Stay glamorous.

My first Foodie Penpals!!

Hello everyone! Finals have taken a huge tole on me literally and figuratively. I’m so exhausted and extremely done with reviewing, analyzing and memorizing.

Anyway, I participated in the Foodie Penpals for the month of April and I am so excited I did! Sonia from The Mexigarian sent me some AMAZING things and some things I’ve never had before! She truly made my first experience as a penpal worthwhile and I sent my package over to Alex over at Healthy Life Happy Wife.

I was super excited to receive my package, I ripped it open in less than 3 seconds and was greeted by a lovely note

20120430-002808.jpg

20120430-002818.jpg

20120430-002824.jpg

The letter was super sweet and explained all the things she sent and what she uses it for/why she likes them. Here in Michigan I haven’t been to a TJs so it was sure great to be sent a lot of things from there.

20120430-002922.jpg

Isn’t that an awesome spread? Btw, those two awesome paintings are Sonia’s! How talented is she? I loved them and it definitely made the package more personally and sweet.

20120430-003007.jpg

I was baffled when I saw Cookie Butter and Almond Butter! Funny story is that I actually bought some Almond Butter the same day Sonia’s package came in. Needless to say I ripped open these two jars asap and had a sample test. Holy cow you could not pull me apart from the Cookie Butter! I am truly addicted..seriously ask my boyfriend lol. I put that baby on nearly everything! It was sure an amazing treat.

20120430-003019.jpg

I absolutely love the name of these bars and the taste is fantastic. I can’t believe I use to eat other cereal bars with added sugar and trans fats but these sure hit the spot, were healthy and just tasted so darn good.

20120430-003027.jpg

Ok so I saw this and squealed! It was like Sonia had read my mind! I’ve always wanted to try Yogi Tea but haven’t found the opportunity aka haven’t found them yet so you know I had to make myself a cup of this tea while I opened more goodies. Let’s just say now I know why this tea is wonderful and everyone raves about it! I’m raving, go buy some!

20120430-003034.jpg

Sonia wrote that her husband tried these and was disgusted LOL I couldn’t stop laughing at the image of a guy having a healthy drink so I put it up to the test and made my boyfriend try these. I don’t know what it is but he also didn’t like ‘em which was weird because I thought it was great! It definitely made pulling all nighters easier and not having to rely on those other sugary options like red bull or monster. I’m glad I have my new FRS healthy energy drinks thanks to Sonia :)

20120430-003041.jpg

Yummy Yummy Yummy. They’re all gone…

20120430-003056.jpg

So you all know how obsessed I am with LUNA bars and again Sonia did NOT disappoint when she sent me 3 new flavors that I have not had! I loved them but of course LUNA bars are perfect! I also love the Macrobar, before having them sent I’ve never heard of them and now I am ordering them online! They are so healthy and delicious, my favorite one is the Cherries ‘N Berries. It had so much flavor and the great amount of kick as my post Spin class snack.

20120430-003106.jpg

Again, these paintings are gorgeous and unique I love them. What a great surprise and treat! Once again Sonia thank you very much for making my experience a wonderful one!

Day 4: Bikini Series

Day 4 already! Why is time going by way too fast? It’s going to be ridiculous once finals start which will be in the next upcoming two weeks. I’m pretty nervous about them especially since I will try to keep up with the series.

20120418-235802.jpg

For today’s workout I did the HITT It! Wild Engine Revver and it was incredible. I started to sweat after the second rep but unfortunately my ankle got the best of me so I decided to walk until I had to get off.

20120419-000047.jpg

I wanted something quick and easy for breakfast so of course I had to make oatmeal! I added blueberries, granola, banana, cinnamon, chia seeds and vanilla almond butter. It was great post workout filling breakfast because I paired it with my Meta-D.

20120419-001011.jpg

20120419-001032.jpg

I had to study for my Chemistry quiz so I didn’t have time to eat my grapefruit as my M2 but my oatmeal was very satisfying that I didn’t need a snack.

I ended up drinking some of my lemon infused water and eating a apple cinnamon Chobani Greek yogurt for my M3 in class. I’m usually uncomfortable with eating in class because everyone stares but I don’t care anymore I’m eating healthy :)

20120419-001811.jpg

I was satisfied for an two hours and then I had blue diamond’s almond crackers with vanilla almond butter (I love almonds). So delicious and I was in my math class as I was eating and my professor was intrigued so I offered him one and he love it! Yay points for converting him :)

20120419-002416.jpg

For dinner I had a small amount of my leftover pasta and wanted something cold so I made a smoothie. I added:

1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
1 banana
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp flax seeds
1 tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes

20120419-003556.jpg

Delicious! Delicious! I was so satisfied and full that I will definitely make smoothies more often as a meal. For my evening workout I completed the 8 toning moves from SELF Magazine. I put my new dumbbells to use.

20120419-003741.jpg

I will be sore tomorrow and that’s a promise. I hope you all have had a great day!

Day 3: Bikini Series

Today we had a Bikini Series Workout which was amazing. It’s ridiculous how much I sweat after it, pretty embarrassing since it only took 20 mins to complete :p

20120418-033051.jpg

Here’s the video if you want to do it, which I suggest you do ;)

My meals for M1-M4 were the same as yesterday’s. My dinner was amazing! I am really proud of myself and how I was able to whip this up quickly.

20120418-034411.jpg

I made a very Lean, Clean and Green dinner that was filling, delicious and healthy!

20120418-034538.jpg

Here’s the recipe:

1 chicken breast steamed

3-4 cups of baby spinach

2 cups of broccoli florets

3-5 tsp of extra virgin olive oil

4-5 cloves of garlic

2 cups of whole wheat penne

3 sprinkles of mozzarella cheese

1-3 grinds of McCormick’s Italian Medley seasoning

20120418-034639.jpg

My afternoon/evening workout was a treadmill run using Nike+GPS. This was also the first real run I had since my sprained ankle.

20120418-034741.jpg

I’m not too sure if I accurately trust the app but it’s pretty amazing the way it works.

Enjoy! :)

Day 2: Bikini Series

So for today’s challenge we had to create a vision board

20120418-030413.jpg

which I completed mine on pinterest:

20120418-030324.jpg 20120418-030332.jpg

For today’s workout we had to do the 8 Toning Moves and the ‘Plateau Buster’ from the SELF Magazine Drop 10 workouts.

20120418-030802.jpg

It felt really good to get back on the treadmill and give my ankle some exercise. I also felt super energized after this workout.

For my first meal I had my Overnight Oats and I added mango, unsweetened coconut flakes and vanilla almond butter.

20120418-031617.jpg

It was delicious when I paired it with my Meta-D!

20120418-031701.jpg

For my second meal I had 1/2 a grapefruit with 1 packet of truvia. Nothing like a good fat burning fruit as a snack. For my third meal I had Katrina’s Meadows Kale Salad from the Beach Babe Nutrition Plan.

20120418-032002.jpg

For my fourth meal I had the Chocolate Dipped Coconut LUNA bar. Delicious and it totally hit the spot.

20120418-032224.jpg

And lastly for my fifth meal I made a delicious dinner consisting of steamed chicken, sweet potato fries and asparagus squirted with fresh lemon and lime juice.

20120418-032419.jpg

20120418-032456.jpg

Have a great day! :)

Day 1: Bikini Series

I’m nervous for this challenge since I’ve never done it before but I am up for it! So for the first day of the challenge we were ordered to write out our goals.

20120418-025155.jpg

I had so many goals and aspirations but decided to keep it short; like the 8 weeks that will fly on by!

20120418-025313.jpg

We also had to pack our healthy meals for Monday and plan our workout.

20120418-032759.jpg

Not too shabby for the first day :)

No Bake Energy Balls!

Hello everyone,

I feel horrible for not posting. It’s been two weeks :( and so much has happened!

20120418-003834.jpg

I sprained my ankle after a treadmill run. I was finishing up 2 miles and I didn’t stop until I finished. The pain was excruciating! I felt awful since I knew I couldn’t work out for at least 2 weeks.

20120418-004006.jpg

In the meantime I had to keep eating Lean, Clean and Green so I made No Bake Energy Balls. They were so tasty and super easy and quick to make.

20120418-004131.jpg

Here’s the recipe:
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup almond butter
1/3 cup blue agave nectar (substitute for honey)
1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes.
1/2 cup ground flaxseeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
1/2 cup of chocolate granola (substitute for chocolate chips)
1 tsp vanilla
Directions:
. Combine all ingredients in a bowl
Mix the ingredients thoroughly and let it chill in the fridge for 30mins
Once the mix is chilled, roll into balls and enjoy!

Hope you all have a great day!
